Language barrier: LowCultural distance: Low
- Italian and Spanish are close enough that you will understand a lot from day one. Catalan is slightly harder but still recognizable.
- Coffee culture is different. Espresso is good, but there is no Italian-style bar culture. Cortado is the local equivalent.
- Dinner is late here too, but not quite as late as in Madrid. 9-10pm is standard in Barcelona.
- The Italian community in Barcelona is one of the largest. You will find Italian shops, restaurants, and schools.
- Bureaucracy feels familiar. The Spanish system is similarly paper-heavy and appointment-based.
