Can Peguera

Can Peguera is a tiny barrio with an outsized personality. The core of the neighborhood is a 1920s workers' housing estate - rows of small, identical houses originally built for factory workers who needed affordable homes near the industrial zones below. The estate has survived demolition attempts and gentrification, and the residents' fierce defense of their community has become part of Barcelona's urban folklore. Two-bedrooms average just EUR 850, and the L5 metro at Llucmajor is the nearest transit link. The neighborhood is small enough that you can walk across it in five minutes, and the local identity is intensely proud. There are no restaurants, no shops beyond a corner store, and nightlife is not a concept here. Living in Can Peguera is an unusual choice - it suits someone who values history, community character, and very low rents over convenience, and who does not mind that the nearest supermarket requires a short bus ride.
