Language barrier: HighCultural distance: Medium
- If you speak French (from Quebec), you have a significant advantage. French and Spanish share many roots.
- Canadian politeness will be appreciated but Spaniards are more direct. A firm no is normal, not rude.
- Healthcare is universal in Spain too, but the system works differently. Register with your local CAP (health center) as soon as possible.
- The real estate market is less transparent than in Canada. Always use a lawyer for property purchases.
- Barcelona winters are mild compared to Canada. You will barely need a winter coat, though locals bundle up at 10 degrees.
