Cultural Tips for United Kingdom Nationals

Language barrier: MediumCultural distance: Medium
  • Lunch is the main meal and happens between 2-3pm, not noon. Adjust your schedule or you will miss restaurant kitchens.
  • Shops close for a few hours in the afternoon. Plan errands for the morning or after 5pm.
  • The NHS has no equivalent here. Register for a tarjeta sanitaria or arrange private insurance early.
  • Tipping is not expected the way it is back home. Rounding up or leaving small change is enough.
  • Catalans are proud of their language and culture. Learning a few Catalan phrases goes a long way.
