Cultural Tips for China Nationals

Language barrier: HighCultural distance: High
  • The Chinese community in Barcelona is concentrated around Fondo (Santa Coloma de Gramenet) and parts of Eixample. Chinese supermarkets and restaurants are plentiful.
  • WeChat and Alipay are not widely accepted. You will need a Spanish bank account and card for daily transactions.
  • Spanish bureaucracy requires in-person appointments and physical documents. Digital processes common in China do not exist here.
  • Chinese New Year is celebrated with a parade in the city center. The Chinese community organizes cultural events year-round.
  • Spanish social life revolves around bars and restaurants. Business is often done over long lunches, not formal meetings.
